Swing arm swap.
« on: July 15, 2012, 05:00:45 PM »

Been working on the Gpz swing arm swap this week.
Still need to get the strut mount tab's welded
and drill some hole's in the strut's.

Thinking a stepped drill pit will make nice lookin hole's
getting smaller as they go deeper.

Then pull it apart so my buddy Gereld can polish the arm,
strut's and brake drum. Hub get's black paint then sent to
Buchanan's this week for a black 17x3 1/2" alum. rim and stainless spoke's.

Guess I should tell how I did the swap.

Turn about 1/16 off  the swing arm
pivot tube and the spacer to fit the frame.
Next drill the frame hole to 11/16 and the gpz
swing arm bolt work's dead nut's.
Added one washer to each side of the
rear axle spacer's and the 650 wheel is a bolt
on using the gpz axle.

Steve I had some tab's I made welded on
but a shock no longer fit's.

I did get it done today and went for a shake down ride.
I don't think this bike has ever gone so straight so easy.
I could feel the 2 1/2" as the steering's a little heaver.

Over all a total success !!
Bike just feels tighter over all.
Bike go's straighter easier under power.

Next up move the chain over by the frame tube's
out of the way and I got this much room for tire.

Some more pic.'s

I first made the tab's with three hole's but they hung off the arm
on the outside to much.

With a 130 tire.

Probably not bad on a nice smooth 1/4 mile track, but I wouldn't be going very fast through the twisties or wheel hop on uneven road surfaces would have you in the bushes.   Ed

Run the tire a little soft and it ain't that bad.
As for  the twisties it turns just fine just
not as fast as my buddy's go.

I've got a plan on some adepter block's to run a shock
just ain't got there yet.

Chris it's a KZ1000 hub I cut the
disk down to fit the Gpz brake caliber
and mount.

OK, nice. Hmmmmmmmmm... might just have to look for a Z1k rear spoked rim, with a disk.
So, you couldn't just bolt up a GPz disk to work with the caliper? Different bolt mounting pattern?
