Carb Rebuild Kits
« on: May 25, 2012, 02:18:21 AM »

So, it's that time again or well for the first time.

I gotta rebuild all four of the carbs on my 1981 Kz650 CSR(h1). Anyone know of a sight to get a complete kit from, or is it hunt and search part numbers?

I also need an accelerator pump rebuild kit.

Plus, will need help rejetting once they are back to stock to allow for pod filters. But before that, carb rebuild kits are needed

Z1enterprises is one of many that have kits and parts.

I have never redone later carbs, so don't know if all the parts needed are available.
Some with the later models have been through their carbs and will chime in.
Axton (Anarki) is one who did some tinkering with later model carbs.
Shoot him a PM if he doesn't see this.

Swap the carbs for an earlier set that you can get parts for - and are probably better than those later vac carbs anyway. ;)

Plenty of used VM24's about.

1977 Z650 C1 that came with a crazy wiring mess, multiple bodges and no airbox, but it's largely sorted now after LOTS of work and stoopid amounts of money, although the spending goes on..and on..and on ...and...well, ya know.

His bike should have VM24s (81 650-CSR).  Not sure, but I think the CV carbs get you more horsepower?

From Z1Enterprises:
top gaskets & bowl gaskets.
starter plunger caps.
starter plunger o-rings (if they're still available at the dealer).
accelerator pump kit (K&L).
petcock vacuum diaphragm kit (K&L).

From HarborFreight metric o-ring kit:
main-jet/bleeder-pipe o-rings.
drain screw o-rings.
pump nozzle o-rings.

Airbox ducts:  no longer available for the 81 650-CSR.

I believe 64 HP was greatest hp of any of the North American models and it was on the bikes with the VM24SS carbs.  Later carbs may have equaled it, but I don't think they exceeded it.  Ed

The 81 should be vm24 with pumps, they didn't go to the CV carbs until 82.  As far as I know there aren't any straight forward kits for the 81 carbs.  Most of what you need is in the kit z1 sells for the earlier, non-pumper carbs, but you'll have to purchase bowl gaskets separately because the bowl gaskets in the kits aren't right for the pumper carbs.  Also, if memory serves me correctly, the air screws are different in the 81 carbs and are not included in the earlier kits.  If your jets, air screws and other brass parts aren't thrashed you might be better off purchasing the bowl gaskets and an O-Ring assortment, particularly if you are going to be rejetting for the pods anyway, because the kits aren't going to come with the right size jets for the pods.
