Cafe Racer Seat
« on: April 04, 2012, 02:53:55 PM »

I was curious if anybody had found a cafe seat for the kz that doesn't require cutting up the frame.  My hopes are i can swap back and forth between stock and the cafe seat.

There are pretty trick seat foam and cover sets from Vietnam that go on a stock seat pan.

They have recently added a giuliari style 2/2 seat.

I saw them today using the search string "kz 650 cover"

I found this seat http://www.dimecitycycles.com/vintage-cafe-racer-caferacer-chassis-seat-parts-one-up-roccity-roadster-cafe-racing-seat-rc-roadster.html , and this seat http://www.dimecitycycles.com/vintage-cafe-racer-caferacer-chassis-seat-parts-one-up-roccity-roadracer-cafe-racing-seat-rc-roadracer.html , I was curious if anybody has used either style and if so how did it fit.  I am trying to figure out which one to order since both seem to work.

Have a look at http://www.dotheton.com/ if you haven't already.
Lots of seat conversions there, some even on kz650s.

Hi Jeff,

Take a look at this set up by Dimecity:

http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=32007.msg343475#msg343475

You will need to fab it up the first time, but you *might* be able to make it work so you can switch between the stock and the cafe seat.  When I mounted mine I found that the hinges and mounting hardware were in the way and all had to be cut off in order for my cafe seat to sit on the frame rails.

Jeff, I purchased a seat on Ebay from lwitcheycreations.com. I will have to modify the seat pan a bit so I can use the stock pivots and latch. The radius matched perfectly. I posted some pics on the partners thread under "New Style Cafe Seat".  http://forums.kz650.info/index.php?topic=7033.0. He makes three designs and I thought reasonable priced @ $149.00.

I ended up ordering the fastback style by roccity and was ordered from dimecity cycles for 150.00.  My radius is a little different since I have a b1 so i was a little worried about cutting the back connections for the duck tail to be able to swap back and forth.  I will post some pictures when i get it and tell anybody that is curious how it fits.
