04 636 front end coversion will it fit?
« on: September 11, 2011, 07:52:25 PM »

hey yall
kinda new to this, in process of rebuilding 79 kz650 c3
found a good deal on a front end off a 2004 636
wondering if it will fit and how complicated it will be, thinking of using forks, tire, bars , brakes, rotors, everything
i know there is some conversion info here haven't really researched much  just looking for a quick answer and opinions
being that i prob wont get to the forks for a few months but thinking of picking them up now

Basically it can be made to work. I've seen these conversions before. If you use everything it should be fine. The only thing is you will have to find a machinist/welder to take the stem from your old triple trees and put it in the new triple trees. That way fitment is ensured. You also might want to get some fork extenders. They care basically just new nuts for the top of the forks which make them longer. I would recommend this to retain your original suspension geometry.

That seems a little steep to me. What's involved is not overly complicated. But for a no-fuss conversion it's not bad.

thanks for the info guys
yeah that is a bit steep but would be nice to ship out then bolt on hmmm maybe I'll wait for a better set of forks to come around before i consider a conversion. still have a ton of things to do just to get her running. I'll ask a local machine/motorsport shop what they would charge for something like this. I am in LI NY by the way
