Hey I guess I should use antig " Old Grump" your write up was excellent, and I guess I was having a bad day. So Call Me Old Grump.
My son is a Col in the Army and I only get to see him about twice a year and only hear from him on special days, well I get touchy when it comes to the Military. No reason to apologize to me because after re reading your post the guy could have acted a little better. The Military is cracking down all across, all soliders no matter how long you been riding you have to take a riders safety course its 2 days 1 classroom 1 riding the course. The reason being a lot of guys are comming back from depoyment and buying the biggest crotch rocket, most have never even owned a bike before and a lot are getting killed. The guy at the gate might have been one of the veteran riders that got grounded when the army implemented the new rule. Never know, again no need to apologize, and I look forward to your next post. Let me know also if your comming thru the Buckeye state maybe antig and a few other can meet someplace.

That's quite an adventure, Ray.  Good to hear you really enjoyed yourself.

As for the Fort, I know Motorcycle Supply in Manhattan has the military approved vests for sale.  They're probably an all-around good thing as they are that bright fluorescent green with retro-reflective striping.

Anyway, you certainly made good time and the Flint Hills probably make for the best riding roads in the state.

Ray,
Great read.  Nice lookin' 650!  Born and raised in Kansas and (thanks to the Army and some other stuff) got to travel all over the country.  Back in Kansas now, out next to Hays.  There are some of us still in the state.  99 and 4 are fantastic roads, eh?
I get down to Eureka Springs about every summer...and out to L.A. to meet some old friends at the Rock Store (Topanga Canyon) about every 3 or 4 years...99 and some of the Cassoday-oriented roads aren't quite as tight, but they're pretty decent...even my riding friends from L.A. think so.
If you're ever going to be Hays way, give me a bit of heads up...roads are even flatter out this way - as you know - but it'd still be a good visit to peep your bike out!
