what is a good 16" rear tire? I cant really find anything other than a Dunlop 404 which i heard isn't a great tire and some shinko somethings. I might have to break down and order something off of online.
www.JakeWilson.com has good prices & free shipping (credit to WABBMW for posting this info). Bridgestone Battlax, Continental Blitz, Dunlop Elite 3 & Dunlop GT501 to name a few. Here's a pic of a 130/90-16 GT501 on my 81 CSR:

Rob, we poor Canuckistanians just do NOT have tire warehouses like our American cousins do. The tire manufacturers leave the Canadian business up to the big parts distributors like Parts Canada, Motovan, Kimpex, Thibault, etc. It is just too small a part of their business to real pursue properly in Canada, I guess......and the big parts distributors are probably a large part of the small pie....so why rock the boat??? In my experience, if there was money to be made with a specialty business like that, someone smarter/richer than you and I would have done it 20 years ago.

Well, since I haven't heard my KZ run, my 525lb, 75HP bike of another brand LOVES BT-45s. Handles Upstate NY roads just fine. Including 125 MPH on the NY Thruway. 10K in front, 6K in back. The black one with silver comstars next to the F4.

I could not get 'inch' sized BT45's down here, so had to go the metric way. 100/90-19 M/C57V BT45S front and 110/90-18 M/C 61H BT45R for the rear.

Just about to end another riding season here in Southern Ontario Canada. The Bridgestone Spitfires I have on the bike really need replacing. They have just over 28000 kms/17400 miles on them in 5 years of riding. They have been an OK tire overall, but I don't usually push her hard in the corners. I'm getting too old for that kind of thrill. The rear has a deffinite flat spot to it. The front is cupped on the left side. I'm told that's due to under-inflation. I will be going to an 18" front wheel this Winter. Just haven't made up my mind on which tires to get. Leaning towards Metzlers or Michelins. Possably Avons. We'll see. The 18" front from a Z1R normally takes a 110/90-18 tire. The back I was going to go with the stock 120 size, but having a slightly wider front I'm thinking I may go slightly wider on the back to a 130, which I have been running for the last 5 years.

I could not get 'inch' sized BT45's down here, Now that's interesting, Steve. So I guess that means that the inch-sized BT45's are available ONLY in the Euro/UK market and nowhere else. Something to do with sidewall approval markings for that market only, I assume.......which is crazy because I can't see Bridgestone making TWO kinds of differently constructed BT45's. All the BT45's have gotta be the same with the only difference being the approval markings, IMO. Grrrrr......

I've been looking at the http://www.petes-superbike.com website for tires. I will be needing new tires this Spring. 18 inch front and rear. I was going to go with a 110/??-18 on the front as that is what a stock Z1R rim uses. I will be putting a Z1R rim on this Winter. Michelin has 110/80H-18 PILOT ACTIV FRONT and 110/90H-18 PILOT ACTIV FRONT. Which size should I go with an 80 or 90? H or V rated? The rear I will probably be going with a 130 width. Either the 130/70H-18 or 4.00H-18 PILOT ACTIV BIAS rear. I was thinking of going back to a 120 rear. I've had a 130 for the last 4 years. Since I'm going to try a wider front this time (100 to 110), I thought I'd go with a 130 rear. There are also some Bridgestone BT-45 SPORT TOURING in 110/80H-18 & 130/70H-18 sizes as well as V rated I believe. Opinions?

Bridgestone BT-45 SPORT TOURING Is this a new part of the BT45 BattlAx line, Rob ?? Or just a rebranding of the BT45 BattlAx line ?? You've got me going, here...... PILOT ACTIV Michelin offers the inch sizes that I'd prefer but.....none of the distributors had stock this past season even though they were listed in various catalogues. As well, the tread on the Activs is waaaayyyyyy too sport-bikeish to fit in with the stock vintage look I really want for my GT550 and/or my C2. I may just bite the bullet and pay serious money for the inch dimensioned BT45V's from the UK. Well, we'll see how thin the bank account is after my Christmas hijinks are ended....

a 130/70-18 would be nearly 2" shorter height than a 4.00-18. This would goof your gearing up quite a bit plus I would not like the lowered rear. I'd stay with a 4.00-18 or for bigger tires stay with a 120/90 or 130/80 would keep the general diameter right.

I'd stay with a 4.00-18 or for bigger tires stay with a 120/90 Agreed, Ron. A buddy of mine runs a 120/90 x 18 Spitfire on the back of his '75 Buffalo and it's close to a 4.00 x 18 in diameter although somewhat wider in profile so it slows his handling down more than the stock sized tire would. That's the big drawback, IMO, to any wider-than-stock tire, front or rear. If someone is not into fast cornering then it's not an issue......but for the rest of us it's something to consider carefully.
